How To Get Customers To Remember Your Stall

Customers do not always buy on the day.
So it is important to get people to remember you.
The best way is to have a quality business card.
Flyers are good but usually end up in the garbage bin. 
Quality cheap colourful cards can be purchased on the net.
We found customers that held onto our contact details were able to
be in touch with us years after we had left a particular market.
Cards make you look professional and really are a cheap form of
targeted advertising.

Selling Of Counterfeit Products

What effect does stalls selling counterfeit products have on your market?
Lots of counterfeit products are available  from DVDs, CDs, T-Shirts, handbags, caps, headphones etc.
Do not try to sell any of the products on your stall. In Australia trade marks are heavily policed.
It is a really bad look for your market to have stalls enclosed in police tape.
The consequences are serious.
What happens to the customer's perception?
1. They think all stalls are selling dodgy products.
2. The market gets a bad name. If it's a customers first visit to the market they will certainly be getting the wrong idea.
3. It is usually followed by bad press in the local paper, on TV and radio.

Should the market management stop stalls selling counterfeit goods from trading?
Well, I think the markets we've traded in, the Managers have been effective. They will close down stalls quickly. They are not trained to recognise counterfeit product, quite often these products are sold under the counter.
So make sure you are not selling counterfeit goods.

Who Is Our Competition?

Who is competing with your market stall?
Stallholders would say to me they had unique products for sale and had no competition in the markets.
This is a wrong assumption to make.  I will explain it this way.
A customer visits the market with a defined amount of money in their pocket to spend.
Only under exceptional circumstances will they change their mind.
A customer comes into the market with $50 in their pocket.
They walk around the stalls spending $20 here, then $15 there. At the food stall spends $10. The customer then comes upon your stall with $5 still in their pocket. You have a product selling for $10. You overhear the customer say to a friend 'I really like that but don't have the money this week' and walk away. If you and your product made enough of an impression they will make your stall the first stop next market day.

So who is your competition in the market? The answer is every other stall.

Is It Time For Spring Cleaning Your Stall?

Father's Day is the first Sunday in September. This year it is 7 September. It's time to start selling products aimed at Dads. Make your customers aware that the day is getting close. Have products suitable to give Dads in a prominent position. Make signs letting customers know.
Stallholders would say to me 'It will be quiet on Father's Day at the markets.'
It's not true. Many families are looking for somewhere to go and take Dad. The markets are a family friendly place to take Dad. Well run markets will promote the day with free entertainment eg children's rides, singers, clowns, face painting.

Penrith City Council’s Sunday Siestas are back on Sunday 19 October and Sunday 2 November 2014 this year at Tench Reserve, Nepean River!Please find attached the Application Form which must be filled out entirely and sent back to myself if you wish to trade at these markets.If you are selling any type of food, you must complete an application to sell food also.
If applications are not fully completed or your public liability is not sent, you will not be
to trade at these events. Penrith City Council reserves the right to accept or reject any application.

Setting Up A Market Stall

It can be an exciting and terrifying experience setting up your market stall for the first time. You’ll be starting early and may not know anyone else so a little preparation is needed before you charge ahead. Before you start, make sure to visit markets and take notes on what you like so you can see what size tables and market tent you’ll want to purchase. Have a look at the other stalls and see what sells well. Make sure there is no one selling anything too similar to you at the market you are choosing to start at.
It is a good idea to practice setting up your stall at home first to see how long it will take you to get everything out and ready.

Walking through the markets observing market stalls, here are some tips.
 
1.SMILE and don't hide behind your tables. There is no point sitting there and expecting sales to come to you.  They just won't. It's a fine line between being too much and too little though.
 
2. Offer your business card if you can't close a sale.
 
3. Give customers a really good reason to come back!
 
4. A beautiful decorated table can go a long way.  Please hide your boxes with a cloth which covers your table to the ground.
 
5. Make an effort! Add some sparkle, some lights, some glamour, some fun.
 
6. Use stacking boxes to create a lovely display on several layers.  Get creative with your table.
 
7. Do give customers the market dates and times business card so they know where and when to find you for next time.  Customers will return to find you.
 
8. Offer discounts and try to have a 'SPECIAL OFFER TODAY ONLY' or something along those lines. At some markets customers ask for discounts more than other markets. Price so you have the discretion or offer a discount on multiple purchase.
 
9. Sounds obvious but make sure your prices are clear and that it is obvious what your product is.
 
10. Offer to look after their item until they have finished shopping. They may buy more when they return.
 
11. Budget something for everyone's pockets. Kids/Teens/Adults etc. 
Everyone likes to feel they can afford something.
 
12. Remember that people always need GIFTS/THANK YOU'S/BIRTHDAY PRESENTS - tell them to bear you in mind.
 
13. Be positive, and return again to the market to sell as experience shows repeat stall holders do the best over time!  If it doesn't work the first, second or third time, remember this is normal.
 
14. You might need to adjust your stock and change your displays or prices. 
 You need to work out what people want to buy from you and adjust accordingly.  This will always be a matter of trial and error.
 
15. People will buy from you if the price is right, and the item is a 'MUST HAVE' and they will tell their friends about you too!

Start A Craft Stall At The Markets

I would suggest that when beginning to sell your craft work that you do not spend a lot of money on set up costs, keep it to an absolute minimum until you are earning money from your craft.

Costing of products: It is entirely up to the individual seller how they price their items. 
If, after checking what other traders are asking for comparable items, you don't know where to place your prices, why not start off on the modest side? That way you won't price yourself out of the market and if you can't keep up with demand that may be a hint that you can afford to be a bit more pricey in future.
When costing out your products the general rule of thumb is the cost of the materials plus 60%, however, this may make some products unaffordable for your customers, so common sense is advisable, perhaps add a little more to your lower cost items, which would allow you to reduce your higher cost items? We would advise that you do not include your time in the costs as this can be impractical and can make your goods too expensive to market. 

Stock levels: Do not make too much. It is better to sell out or to take orders than to store a huge amount of stock.. You can make more in between events. As you get more experienced and attend more events you will have a better idea of what sells more quickly and what you should have in terms of stock.

Flyers and advertising: Always have some flyers to give out to your customers and prospective customers. These can be easily formatted on your computer and printed off at home, they should show your name, business name, contact details and any events you have booked for. These sometimes can be kept by people for a long time before they make a purchase, it is not unknown to get a phone call and order a year after an event.

Your best advert is word of mouth, so be friendly and helpful. Regular trading at one location gives your customers the feeling of security that you will be available should they have any problems or want to buy from you again. It can take a year or more to build up a customer base. 

Treat your stall as your shop window, a way to advertise your product. It is hard not be sensitive about products you make yourself, but just because you may not sell well at an event does not mean that there is anything wrong with your product, it may just mean that the customers are going away to think about it and then come back and purchase from you next time or ring you up to order from you and this may be months later.

Welcome your customers, be friendly even if you are having a bad day! It may turn out to be great day by the end of trading!

Christmas Is On Its Way

This is the time of year you really need to set your stall up with 'The Christmas Spirit'. The shops are now decorating for the season. It is worth the effort to spend a little time on your stall. It can be done cheaply. Maybe hanging a few Christmas stocking, a bit of tinsel, a few stars will put the customer in the buying mood.
The 2 month lead up to Christmas should be the most profitable time of the year. So gear yourself up to sell and remember to dress up your stall. Carry stock that is seasonal but do not overstock. Make Christmas packs.  A lot of impulse buying goes on at this time of year.

Fun Selling Shoes

A shoe stallholder at one of the markets I attend was having a laugh. He said a funny thing had just happened to him. He'd decided to sell out a range of joggers he had been selling for $40. A hand written sale sign was made exclaiming the shoes for '$10 a pair'. He didn't expect the first customer to come along to ask if there were plenty of different sizes. The customer asked him to pack up 50 pairs. This was done at the expense of dealing with other customers. Feeling proud of himself said "that will be 50 x $10 = $500". "$500", she said. "Yes" and he repeated the calculation. "Oh I'm so sorry I didn't have my glasses on and thought they were $1 a pair.", she said apologising.  True Story

Take Your Market Business Seriously

I attended a market on the weekend. A new stall had set up. The product doesn't matter but it would require personal contact with potential buyers to sell it. Credibility I feel would be very important as the stallholder was asking buyers to believe the claims about the product without proof that it actually worked.
There were three people (2 girls and 1 guy) working in the stall. Product at the front and they sat at the back amusing themselves with laughter, dancing to a music player, neck massages. Why were they at the market? To amuse themselves or sell product. This was a premium market with a premium rent, they sold very little all day. What I'm saying is when selling your products at a market  treat your market business as a business or you will not succeed.

Stallholders Should Wear Appropriate Footware

When setting up your stall you should wear proper covering on your feet. It is so easy to drop a table, heavy box, frame work for your stall on your feet. I saw a few weeks back a young girl drop a table on her foot while setting up her stall. Only wearing light sandals she had no protection. Her foot covered in blood and in considerable pain she made a hasty retreat from the market. I don't  know of her outcome but haven't seen her since. Another stallholder complained he nearly cut his foot on piece of glass. When I looked at his feet he was wearing thongs (flip flops).
We all need to protect ourselves as most of us won't get accident pay :-)

Reasons To Visit Your Local Market

With all the wet weather around let's look at some good reasons to visit local markets.

  • Wide variety of goods at affordable prices
  • Healthy open air activity all year round
  • Sense of community
  • Atmosphere
  • Dependability
  • Individual service
  • Environmentally  friendly
  • If you are new to an area, it’s a great way to meet local characters, hear local gossip and find out what is important to those who live in the area.
  • You’ll find goods that you won’t necessarily find in shopping centres.

If you treat the traders with friendly respect, in most cases they’ll welcome you back like an old friend.

Handy tips:
Don’t confuse markets with car boots.  Car boots are a very different affair.  The major difference being, car booters are private sellers out to make extra cash.  Market traders are business people who are out to make their living.
While haggling over price might be acceptable at a car boot, market traders do not take kindly to this practice.  Don’t believe everything you see on TV.  You wouldn’t haggle over the ticket price of $10.00 in a shop so treat a market stall as an outdoor shop.  If the trader wants to give you a discretionary discount, leave it up to them.
The most annoying question for a market trader is ‘what’s your best price?’  The best price is the one on the ticket!

If you would like to set up as a market trader.
Do your research, talk to traders, find out stall prices, research your product – decide whether you could cope with cold temperatures throughout the winter, business can’t just stop then! It’s not as easy as it looks.

There are different types of markets.
1. City centre markets (sometimes indoors). Sydney's Paddy's Market at Haymarket is a great example. City markets are usually open 4-5 days per week.
2. Weekly town markets, find out from the council or tourist office what day the market is on.  They are usually on one or two days a week.   Eg. Fairfield Markets NSW is on a Saturday all year round. Penrith Markets NSW Wednesdays all year round.Parklea Markets NSW every Saturday and Sunday.
3. Farmer’s Markets are usually on once or twice a month, selling fresh produce straight from the farm.
4. Flea markets might be on the same day as the weekly town market.

Try something different from the everyday shopping malls, visit a market and hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.

Setting Up A Market Stall For The First Time

Be Prepared
The amount of planning involved takes longer than you think..  There is always room for improvement in how to display your service, how to decorate, how signage is so important to tell customers what you do.  Don’t under estimate the length of time required to prepare for your first day of trading at the market.
Do Your Research
Different markets operate under slightly different rules so it’s worth chatting with the market manager for some advice and tips on how to run a successful market stall.  Daily rates are available to hire a stall but Traders are responsible to fully decorate their stalls.  Unless you are a permanent trader, stalls are usually assigned on the morning of trading day.  So there is a potential you may get turned away if demand far outweighs spaces available.
Signage
Good, large, easy to read signs will make your stall stand out from the rest.  Consider colour schemes, and general décor when dressing your stall so that you maximise impact and attract the most customers on trading day.  Be sure to confirm exact dimensions of your stall before buying equipment such as drapery for decorating to avoid a poor presentation on trading day.
 Display
Always get into the head of your potential customers.  What would most likely draw customers to your stall?  How will you display your products?  Do you plan to drive revenue based on competitive pricing or on the uniqueness of your products?  There are many display stands, market stall supplies, sign and poster providers that can enhance the overall feel and look of your stall.  Example: A market trader who sells handmade cards will benefit from card display stands for the counter top or floor based stands to showcase the products.
 Too Much Clutter
Most customers will only have time to pass by each stall once during their visit, so be sure to stand out from the crowd by having good signage, pricing and explanation of what you do.   Although you may have tons of products you would like to show your customers, extra care is needed to consider placement of each item.  Try not to clutter your stall by randomly placing products all over the table.  Try to be creative by pinning or hanging some products on the side and at the back of your stall.  Spend time to create a warm and welcoming, clutter-free market stall for your customers.

When Booking A Market

There are a number of things that need to be considered when booking into a new market..
  • Is anyone else going to be selling similar products? 
  • Is the event suitable for your products e.g right target market, handcrafted/handmade items only. 
  • How much is the fee?
  • Booking form - if possible, double check cancellation/refund Terms and Conditons and any deposit details.
  • Is a raffle prize required?
  • Is a stand/table provided and if so how large?
  • Are there any arrangements for parking and unloading?
  • Are directions available to the venue?
  • Is there an estimated  number of attendees?
  • Advance publicity - how well has the event been advertised? Can you help to display/distribute any flyers etc.?
  • Is access to power available if needed?
  • Have you exchanged contact numbers in case of any questions or problems either before or on the day?

Preparing For A Market

Preparing for a market really is just a matter of making sure that you are ready to show off your goods and services to their best advantage. Obviously you need to ensure that any stock required will be available in good time for the market. You may want to cellophane or package items to protect them or display them more attractively. You should think about how you intend to display items and whether you have the necessary stands or baskets etc. You might find it useful to practice your display and take a photograph which you can then use to recreate it - useful for a quick set-up under time pressure.
Double check that you have all the contact information, timings, venue details and directions that you need.

What to take to events,

There are a number of things that are useful, if not essential to take along to markets e.g.

Own table if not provided
Tablecloth - often useful to have a spare in case of extra, large or
unusually-shaped table.
Cash tin, float and calculator.
Notepad, pens, bluetac, sticky tape, scissors.
Bags.
Receipt pads and order forms if applicable.
Display equipment, baskets or stands.
Flask and refreshments.
Business cards.
Price signs.
Brochures or leaflets.
Stock.
Canopy, gazebo, all weather protection.
Sunscreen and hat.
Chair if not provided.

Your First Day As A Market Stallholder

  1. If you are setting up at a market for the first time, it would be useful to prepare a bit in advance. You might need a few things like a banner, a table cloth, display stands (depending on your product), leaflets, business cards etc. Make sure they are ready/ bought in time for the market day.
  2. Practise setting up the table at home, do the changes if required and then take a picture with your phone. On the day of the market, you can refer to the photo to get the right arrangement.

Starting A Market Stall

Farmers markets, handicraft markets, artisan markets, food markets, indoor markets, outdoor markets … there's no doubt that we love visiting markets.
No doubt you've been to one — but have you considered running your own stall?
Whether it's extra money you're after or the launching pad for a new business, a market stall could be just what you need.
"It's one of the best ways to turn a hobby into a money-making venture," says Margie Sheedy, author of The Small Business Success Guide. "It's a fantastic way to test the market and put yourself, and your ability, to sell out there."
Libby Parsons sells her handmade women's clothing exclusively through Surry Hills and Kirribilli markets in Sydney, under the label Zardie.
"I chose the markets as it is a good gauge of whether people appreciate your product," she says. "I see it as a starting point, to get my label known."
For Parsons, the best thing about selling at markets is that she meets the people who buy her clothes. "You build up more of a relationship," she says. And the worst part? "Markets are really unpredictable — you never know if it's going to be a good day or a bad one!"
Whether you're creating a business or simply looking for a way to make ends meet, Sheedy says clear goals are a must.
"Start as you mean to go on," Sheedy says. "Know what you want to achieve before you begin. Be strategic at a very basic level. If you're trying to create a money-making venture, then start doing it the way you want to finish it."
To get you started, here are 10 tips for setting up a market stall.

  • Research the markets in your area
    Not all markets are created equal and they all draw different customers. "Visit the different markets to work out which is best for your product," Parsons says. Sheedy suggests talking to the market organisers about who visits and how much they spend. "Don't waste your time taking your products to the wrong market," she says.
  • Markets cost money
    "You'll need cash to start up," Sheedy says. "Money to produce or procure your product plus site fees. Don't forget to factor in your time." Most markets offer "casual" stalls, with some offering the possibility of becoming permanent.
  • You will need some hardware
    Things like tables, chair, marquee or an umbrella will be essential. You could try an indoor market first, if there's one in your area, as these often provide tables. This will give you a chance to test the waters. If you're outdoors, don't forget weights to hold your tent down in case of high winds. A money belt is very important to keep your cash safe and secure.
  • Don't forget the extras
    Read the regulations for stallholders at your market of choice very carefully. If public liability insurance isn't covered in the stall fee, you may need to get some — and some markets will require product liability insurance as well. You will also need to work out whether you will need to register for GST. Talk to your accountant.
  • Be organised and professional
    Have enough money in your "float" to give ready change. Make sure you have enough stock with you. Remember bags for packing customer's purchases — brown paper bags are readily available, cheap and eco-chic. "Be ready when customers come to your stall," Sheedy says. "Have a business card in case they ask. Word-of-mouth referrals are important with markets."
  • Know your customer
    When considering pricing, remember you are selling at markets. "Market customers like to get a bargain," Parsons says.
  • Think about promotion and presentation
    How are you going to stand out from all the other stalls? "Also consider how you might capture customer information," Sheedy says. "Can you create a mailing list to keep people up to date on your next market appearance in the area? This might be particularly useful if your region tends to have markets in different places on different weekends." The list could also be the beginning of an online business.
  • Get used to swings and roundabouts
    "Markets are unpredictable," Parsons says. "Don't be too disheartened if you have a bad day." Basically, if the weather is good, customers may choose to go to the beach instead. If it's bad, they may choose to stay in bed. No crowds equals no sales. But bear in mind that you will need to pay your site fees regardless.
  • Be prepared for long hours
    Markets often require a very early setup and you'll need to stay to the bitter end of the day, even if you're not selling anything. Add in travelling, setting up and unpacking time and make sure you factor this in to your profits. You may find you're working for $3 an hour.
  • Keep a sales book
    Write down what you sell and where. It will give you an idea of what's working at different markets.

What Is Australia Day 26 January ?

Visitor numbers are up already compared to the same time last year.
This may a good time to go over a few points.

Reasons To Visit Your Local Market

  • Environmentally  friendly
  • If you are new to an area, it’s a great way to meet local characters, hear local gossip and find out what is important to those who live in the area.
  • You’ll find goods that you won’t necessarily find in shopping centres.

If you treat the traders with friendly respect, in most cases they’ll welcome you back like an old friend.

Handy tips:
Don’t confuse markets with car boots.  Car boots are a very different affair.  The major difference being, car booters are private sellers out to make extra cash.  Market traders are business people who are out to make their living.
While haggling over price might be acceptable at a car boot, market traders do not take kindly to this practice.  Don’t believe everything you see on TV.  You wouldn’t haggle over the ticket price of $10.00 in a shop so treat a market stall as an outdoor shop.  If the trader wants to give you a discretionary discount, leave it up to them.
The most annoying question for a market trader is ‘what’s your best price?’  The best price is the one on the ticket!

If you would like to set up as a market trader.
Do your research, talk to traders, find out stall prices, research your product – decide whether you could cope with cold temperatures throughout the winter, business can’t just stop then! It’s not as easy as it looks.

There are different types of markets.
1. City centre markets (sometimes indoors). Sydney's Paddy's Market at Haymarket is a great example. City markets are usually open 4-5 days per week.
2. Weekly town markets, find out from the council or tourist office what day the market is on.  They are usually on one or two days a week.   Eg. Fairfield Markets NSW is on a Saturday all year round. Penrith Markets NSW Wednesdays all year round.
3. Farmer’s Markets are usually on once or twice a month, selling fresh produce straight from the farm.
4. Flea markets might be on the same day as the weekly town market.

Try something different from the everyday shopping malls, visit a market and hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.

Large Retailers Complaining They Are Hard Done By

It has been in the news this week and on talk back radio that the large retailers are suffering because customers are ordering goods on the internet. They have been saying they are 'badly done by' because buying online goods up to $1,000 does not attract the 10% Goods & Services Tax. The savings ordering online are much greater than 10%. Retailers in shopping centres have large overheads so require large profit margins to exist.

When you buy through your local market stall, stallholders in most cases, will sell their goods with small mark up margins, giving you the very best price. The overheads, operating a market stall are considerably less than in a shopping centre. Support your local market.

Power Balance Wristband - Choice Magazine Warns

CHOICE verdict

CHOICE is all for the power of positive thinking, but we can’t find much positive to say about Power Balance. It has no discernable effect on flexibility and balance. Any benefit you feel while wearing it is almost certainly due to a placebo effect. So, zero stars for the Power Balance.
If the products were cheap, we could at least call them a harmless bit of nonsense, but at $60 for the wristband and $95 for the pendant they’re far too overpriced to laugh off.

Customers Who Ask For A Discount

Discounting at markets:
It’s not like every single stallholder haggles and not every single buyer askes.
It’s a traditionally accepted part of the buying and selling paradigm. Haggling is built into it. The vast majority of people aren’t going to haggle, but there are a hard-core few who will, and in the hard core there are always some who are going to be really chintzy. There are certain shoppers who don’t even consider it a true market experience unless they talk you down a little bit.
Advice for stallholders:
Price tag everything. Customers are more comfortable with that. You have a starting point. If you discount your price, price everything with what is called a built-in bargaining advantage. If you know you need to get $8 for an item, price it at $10. If somebody starts haggling, then the built-in bargaining percentage works in your favour.
What to do with rude customers:
Don’t get angry, say, ‘You know, this is a really good deal at $5. If you’re not interested, somebody is going to snap it up later today. If you’re not willing to pay for it, fine, somebody else will be.’ Don’t yell at people. Try to keep it civil. But if somebody really tries to be chintzy, like offering 50 cents for something, just kind of laugh. It never pays to get belligerent with people, even the jerks. And they’re out there.

Power Saver Device Withdrawn From Sale

Power saver device withdrawn from sale after ACCC action

Bronze Swan will no longer sell the Enersonic Power Saver device after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission raised issues about the effectiveness of the device.
From March 2009 to April 2010, Bronze Swan marketed the device, which plugs into a standard electricity outlet and which purports to reduce the user's electricity consumption. Bronze Swan promoted and sold the Power Saver on its website , at trade and agricultural shows around Australia and also through its authorised agents. Bronze Swan sold around 2100 devices, each typically costing $139.95.
The ACCC was concerned that claims by Bronze Swan on its website and in its promotional material that the device would reduce consumers' electrical consumption and cut their electricity bills, were misleading and deceptive, or likely to mislead or deceive, in contravention of the Trade Practices Act 1974.
Bronze Swan has been cooperative in resolving this matter and acknowledged the ACCC's concerns by ceasing to distribute the Power Saver.
The ACCC has accepted court enforceable undertakings from Bronze Swan that it will:
  • not engage in the retail sale, marketing or distribution of the Power Saver
  • display a corrective notice on the Bronze Swan website for three months
  • display the corrective notice for a period of 12 months at each trade or agricultural fair or home show that it attends
  • send a copy of the corrective notice to all consumers and agents that purchased the Power Saver, and
  • implement a trade practices law compliance program.
"Consumers today are very concerned about rising electricity costs and traders should not take advantage of those concerns by making misleading and unsubstantiated representations that their products can reduce consumers' electricity bills," ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said today.

In July 2010, the ACCC instituted legal proceedings in the Federal Court in Sydney against the distributor of the Power Saver device, Auscha Corporation Pty Ltd and its Products Development Officer, alleging that Auscha made a number of false or misleading representations about the Enersonic Power Saver in breach of the Trade Practices Act 1974. Those proceedings are continuing and a hearing is set down for 15 October 2010.

The Best Time To Start A Market Stall Is Now

We are now in the lead up to Christmas trade. It is not good enough to make an appearance in the markets 2 weeks before hoping to make sales out of the Christmas period. If you really want to make this period work for you, you need an early presence around the place. Customers see your product and keep it in mind for that special purchase. It is a gradual build up to having successful sales campaign. So if you're thinking of a market stall, do it now. Make sure you pitch towards the Christmas sale. Retailers will tell you 60% of their annual sales are in the last 3 months of the year. So go out now make the commitment start a market stall. If you do it right you will feel a great deal of achievement by starting your own business.

The Annual Land Rover Expo - Stall Holders Required

The annual Land Rover Expo is run by two Sydney Land Rover Club’s as a great day out for Land Rover owners and people interested in all things Land Rover.

Parramatta New Farmers Market Thursdays

Parramatta City is starting a new weekly Thursday market, from 9am to 2pm.
“The new Thursday Farmers’ Market will attract a more diverse demographic from active CBD workers to eager shoppers, and will offer revellers an assortment of food from farm fresh fruit, vegetables and honey, to multicultural cuisine from Turkish gozleme, spicy Mexican and delectable Dutch pancakes - perfect for a lunch-break treat,” he said.

Must mention here,
The staff at penrith markets, Robbie, Colin, Phil, Vince, Paul, Sean, and Garry etc. Always with a friendly greeting and smile. Special thanks to Robbie the manager who has imagination and listens to the concerns of the stallholders. The idea was raised recently about diverting the through traffic of visitors through the undercover area. He ran with the idea straight away and has given it a try. It looks as hough we might be on a winner as all the stallholders I spoke to where happy.
He and his stall respect us stallholders as business folk trying to earn a living. It is a pity that some other markets managers do not treat their supporting retailers in this way.

Spend A Wednesday At Penrith Markets

It really is worth a visit. Penrith Markets on every Wednesday 8.00am to 1.30pm. It is the largest mid week market, held in Penrith Showground. Hundreds of stalls waiting to serve you. There is a great variety of stalls selling craft, clothing, kitchenware, watches, books, antiques, food, pets, car accessories, computers and parts, shoes, jewellery, engraving, CDs and DVDs, lawn mower repairs, key cutting, fruit and veg, cosmetics, plants, posters, restoring of old home movies and photos, personalised names and meanings, and the list goes on...
The showground is centrally located within a vibrant shopping precinct. The Nepean Shopping Centre opposite and the nearby Penrith Plaza. Come to Penrith and spend the day. The market is a 20 minute trip up the M4 from Parramatta.

From next Wednesday 23 June 2010 the management will change the flow of foot traffic though the market to include the undercover area. This is a great innovation and stalls located in this area are very happy with the changes. This involves the closure of a short section of the roadway outside this area. Stalls located in this area will be turned to face the undercover area.
Other news about the place includes a visit to the Penrith Markets by the Leader of the state opposition Mr Barry O'Farrell  M.P. with a state By Election being held in Penrith this weekend. He was seen wandering talking to stall holders and customers at the market. It was also reported PREMIER Kristina Keneally was in the nearby shopping centre and Jackie Kelly former Liberal member for the federal seat of Lindsay was seen shopping in Penrith Markets.
